Topics to be covered:
Strategies to build Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills.
1.  Using the Calendar, Weather, and Student Information to build community and interpersonal communication proficiency
2.  Short Demo of a One Word Image and Story with a One Word Image (Story creation using characters that the class creates together) to build community and proficiency in interpersonal communication/describing/narrating
3.  Literacy extension activities to build reading, writing, listening, and speaking proficiency:  Write and Discuss, Reading Options, Freewrites
Strategies to Bridge to Academic Language Proficiency.
4.  Visually-Scaffolded Storytelling and Mini-Lectures to build listening proficiency and cultural/nonfiction knowledge
Strategies to Build Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency.
5.  Project GLAD Overview:  A content-based unit template with four parts:
Focus and Motivation, Input, Guided Oral Output, Reading and Writing
Strategies for Assessment.
6.  Rubrics

* Foundational CI Skills – Learn to use your body, voice, visual aids, and L1 to make your speech comprehensible no matter what CI delivery method you choose.

*  Visual Storytelling – Learn to use traditional tales, folktales, nonfiction passages, and stories to provide content knowledge and input simultaneously.

*  One Word Images – Learn a simple method for building unique and creative characters with your classes.  These characters may be used to launch stories or as a stand-alone activity.

*  Stories with the Invisibles – Learn how to create engaging stories with characters that your students create.

*  Write and Discuss and Reading Options – Learn how to create texts with your classes that are engaging and easy to understand, because they come from the class’ experience.  Learn 20 Reading Options to provide excellent follow-up literacy work.

*  Assessment without Judgement – Learn how to assess your students in a way that builds up their self-concept and guides them to develop as listeners, readers, and writers.
